- This Old World scorpion is from Algeria in North Africa. It has also been reported from Tunisia.
- Although the species was described in 1839 (C. L. Koch), the original holotypes were lost. Therefore, for many years it was considered a subspecies of Androctonus bicolor, and was known as Androctonus bicolor aeneas. However, thanks to the wonders of DNA testing, it was restored as a species in 2016.
- These are VERY rare in the U.S. hobby.
