- This New World scorpion is from Colombia, Costa Rica, Cuba, Ecuador, Guatemala, Jamaica, Mexico, Nicaragua, Panama, Dominican Rep., El Salvador, Venezuela, Peru, the Bahamas, and US (Florida - introduced). There are also introduced colonies in Africa, & Japan.
- These are medium to large scorpions, with adults 2.5" - 3.75" long. They are also fast growing.
- They are communal as adults. Juveniles to sub-adults are still prone to cannibalism when food is scarce.
- The color is variable: carapace, tergite I-IV, pedipalp chela, metasomal segment V and telson dark red-brown; carinae and larger granulation on body dark red-brown to black; all other regions yellow to yellow-brown.
