- Also know as the Dark Scorpion or South African Thick Tail.
- This Old World scorpions is from Africa (Botswana, Mozambique, RSA, Zimbabwe).
- This species hide in burrows, under stones, logs etc.
- The adult size is 3.35" up to 5.9".
- Medical data indicates that this species has a strong venom and is medical significant. LD 50 value for this species is reported to be 4.25 mg/kg. Due to it size, this scorpion can inject very large amounts of venom. This species is able to squirt venom up to one meter away, and venom in the eyes can be very dangerous.
- This species is blackish/brown (some color variations are possible), with red-brown pincers. Pedipalps and legs are lighter in color.
- The pectine count is ♂ 44 - 52; ♀ 38 - 45.
