- Also known as Red Bark Scorpion, Tanzanian Bark Scorpion & Rusty Red.
- This Old World Buthidae scorpion is from Uganda, Tanzania, Kenya, Somalia, Cameroon and the Democratic Republic of Congo.
- The adult size is 3" - 4".
- It is possible to keep adult specimens of this species in small groups, consisting of more females than males.
- This species has a red-orange base coloration that changes to a rusty brown with increasing instars. All segments of the extremities including the pedipalp segments show a centered brown coloration. Tibia and tarsus of the pedipalps are dark, too. The same goes for the mask of the carapace from the median eyes to the chelicerae. Three symmetrical dark brown stripes, which are framed by a brighter yellow-orange, run over the tergites. The metasoma is colored brown ventrally and in base color dorsally. All colors different to the base color will more and more weaken out with increasing instars.
- The pectinal teeth count of B. jacksoni is 18-25 for both sexes (♂ 18 -24; ♀ 18 - 24).
- They are known to play dead (catalepsy) when startled, especially younger specimens.
-A rather calm, non-aggressive species of scorpion. When disturbed they will mostly move away slowly and calmly and only move fast when the disturbance is intense.
- Sexual Dimorphism: Females - have more slender/slimmer chela. Males - have more bulbous/fatter chela.
