- Also known as Peruvian Pink Rump, Peruvian Orange Rump, & Flame Rump Tree Spider.
- This New World Semi-Arboreal (and therefore Semi-Terrestrial) tarantula is from Peru. The thinking is that annual flooding in Peru drives them into the trees. As adults they will be calmer if given room to climb.
- This is a docile species, but can be skittish and kick hair (they LOVE to kick hair when disturbed).
- This species has a unique "threat pose" when disturbed. Instead of raising up and showing their fangs (which they may do on occasion), they're more likely to stick their abdomens (butts) up in the air facing the threat, ready to unleash a cloud of hair! Amanda likes to call these the "Baby got Back" tarantula. :)
- The adult size is 6".
- Like most slings, they will burrow. As adults they will be out in the open. Some specimens show terrestrial tendencies, and others are climbers (they remind us of the Green Bottle Blues in this way).
- The color is a steely blue with rose hairs on the abdomen. Their legs are a grayish color with a blue tinge. As slings they look exactly like the adult but have yellow markings on the abdomen. There abdomens have an almost elongated shape to them and under the urticating hairs the skin is an almost gold color.
