- Also known as Kingsville Bronze Brown and South Texas Brown.
- This New World Terrestrial is from USA & Mexico. In the wild, like most Aphonopelma, they live in burrows to escape the heat of the desert.
- The adult size is 5" - 6".
- They have tan carapaces, reddish opisthosoma hairs, and are generally docile.
- Their natural habitat is mixed desert scrub/grassland. Fertile agricultural areas and cattle ranching. Reports of specimens favoring lawns and golf courses.
- This species exhibits size variation within males and females across their distribution, with northern populations generally smaller and the southern populations representing one of the largest tarantulas in the United States. They are considered a slow growing species.
