- This Old World scorpion is from Africa (Algeria, Egypt, Libya, Mauritania, Morocco, Senegal, Tunisia) and Asia (Iraq, Iran, Israel, Jordan, Kuwait, Lebanon, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Syria, Turkey, Yemen).
- This burrowing species is often found in desert habitats, but can also be found in dry forests.
- Mildly venomous, but a painful sting. Harmless for healthy humans. This aggressive species will often use claws for defense, and not use the stinger.
- The adult length is 2.6" - 3.15".
- The enclosure should be kept more humid than other desert scorpion species, but not damp.
- The different subspecies (19 subspecies are described in Fet et al., 2000) are varying in colors. Most have a yellow to red-brown color (the tip of the claws are usually dark red-brown), but some subspecies are dark brown/blackish in color.
- This species is often found in colonies, but each scorpion has it's own burrow.
- The pectine count is ♂ 9 - 11, ♀ 7 - 11.
