- Also known as Silvestri's scorpion.
- This New World scorpion can be found throughout California, into Northern Mexico (Baja California). There is a report that it can be found in Arizona.
- Often found in riparian zones, but also in chaparral, woodland, and scrub. Fond of moisture as well, can be found in washes.
- Females attaining larger size, having shorter and stouter cauda with heavier telsons, and longer and less granulose hands on chelae. Sexual dimorphism more pronounced, and considerably smaller males having more slender cauda and quite thin, weak hands.
- Base color yellow to dull orange or tan, with well marked black pattern.
- They tend to be very skittish, high-strung, fast-moving and defensively reactive. Adults are not as high-strung as younger specimens but still tend to be defensive.
- Pectine count is ♂ 25 - 29; ♀ 18 - 22
