- Also known as Chilean Yellow Rump, Chilean Pink Burst, and Chilean Violet.
- This New World Terrestrial comes from near Santiago (Chile). It is also been seen in Argentina on the West side of the Andes (low altitude).
- In the wild, they are found in burrows, but in captivity they will usually be found out on display.
- This is a very laid back, easy to handle species.
- P. scrofa was one of the first tarantulas recorded in taxonomic literature by Molina in 1788. Since then, it was mistaken for a Chilean rosehair for about 100 years, then called manicata, then it was a rosehair again, then manicata again, then finally it was called P. scrofa in 1996.
- They are known for long extensive fasts. This is a good beginner T. It is also hardy. When given enough anchor points, they might produce a nice web as well.
- Females can live up to 25 years old. Males are given a shorter lifetime from 4/5 years.
