- Also known as Colombian Lesserblack, Ecuadorian Red Abdomen, Purple Bloom, Purple Bloom Birdeater, and Lesser Black Birdeater.
- This New World Burrower is from tropical rain forests of Panama, Venezuela, Colombia, Peru, and Ecuador.
- A shy tarantula, especially as juvenile, but once it reaches 6" - 7" mark become less skittish and abdomen will become less bald because of hair kicking. It's not considered an aggressive /defensive tarantula - may use a defensive pose as a threat, but would rather retreat.
- They are typically 7" - 9" as adults.
- In the wild, the frog Chiasmocleis ventrimaculata (Dotted Humming Frog) is known to have a mutualistic relationship with the burrowing tarantula Xenesthis immanis. The tarantula provides the frog protection from predators and a food source from insects feeding on the remains of its prey. The frog's foraging protects the tarantula's eggs from ants.
- If you simulate their natural environment by decorating the cage with foliage, they tend to stay out and wonder more.
- A dark tarantula with slightly noticeable light striping on the legs. Freshly after molting, they appear to have a purplish sheen.
